Carolyn Cook

Registrar

Holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Social Ethics and Religious Studies and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education, both from St Martin's College, Lancaster, England.After completing her teaching probationary period, she moved into the English Civil Service and worked as an Administration Officer in the Department for National Savings.She and her husband and 2 sons moved to the United States in 2000. She began her working life here as a substitute teacher in the Union County, Georgia, school system. She began working at Darrington as a Social Studies and English teacher, but for the last 2 years has worked exclusively as the school's registrar.
Carolyn enjoys reading - mostly historical fiction and fantasy - music, movies and cross stitch.

 

Mrs Suzanne George

Holds a master's Degree in Middle Grades Education from Georgia State University, a current Georgia Educator's Certificate in the same field, and has twenty years experience teaching middle grade students in the Georgia Public School System. She and her husband Ron have recently relocated to the beautiful North Georgia Mountains from Henry County, georgia. Suzanne has a wide variety of interests and enjoys family, friends, reading, music, jet-skiing, canoeing, crafts, puzzles and gardening as some of her leisure-time activities.

 

Mrs. Jackie M. Brown

Education:  Undergraduate: Oglethorpe U., Ga. State U.- AB psychology, education
Graduate- UGA- educational administration
Teaching Experience: DeKalb Co., Fulton Co Bd of Ed. -30 years high school and middle                school mathematics.  National Sci Center Learning Logic computer lab 5 years.
Adult Community Ed.:  GED, English as a second Language- 5 years

National Ed. Assoc. presenter:  San Antonia, Texas, New Orleans, LA, Portland, Oregon, and Honolulu, Hawaii

Special Interests:  Equine sports, gardening, fiber crafts

 

Dr Darryl Brixius

Was born and raised in Pennsylvania and educated at Lebanon Valley College and Iowa State University.  After 30+ years in industrial positions, ranging from Research Chemist to Vice President of Research and Development, a decision was made to enter into college teaching.  This position lasted for several years when relocation to Georgia occurred.  The desire to continue teaching remained and a position at Darrington Academy provided the means to an end, which continues to this day.

When not teaching, a strong interest in soccer has lead to playing, as well as obtaining coaching licenses.  Other interests include woodworking and hiking.

 

Miss Lynn Perry

Holds an A.F.A degree from Reinhardt College, as well as a B.A. in English from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta.  She worked as a professional writer for over twenty years writing text books, educational materials, standardized tests, and various computer-related technical writing, before relocating to Ellijay, Georgia to be closer to her family.  She currently teaches English full-time at Darrington Academy, and enjoys writing a monthly column for Mountian Peeks magazine, and a weekly column for her local newspaper, The Times Courier.  Lynn loves to travel, read, write, spend time with family and friends, and complain about her unruly dog.  She is also a single mom to a lovely 15-year-old daughter, Hannah.

 

John Dunson

Privately tutors students in mathematics as well as offering general mathematics help in the classroom. Helping students organize their thoughts and teaching logic through Geometry is very satisfying. The change in the students' demeanor, attitude and ultimately in their academic performance is a very rewarding experience. Opening their eyes to the multitude of opportunities and practical application of math in the real world is very rewarding.

Sherrie Faughender

Is certified as a Highly Qualified Teacher of Language Arts and Reading in Alabama. She currently teaches English at Darrington Academy. The Auburn University graduate taught for 30 years in the Calhoun County Schools System in Alabama where she was inducted into the Calhoun County and White Plains High School Hall of Fame.
In addition to her teaching duties and mentorship of new teachers, Ms. Faughender fulfilled additional duties. She chaired both the School Improvement Team which developed and oversaw the budget for the school, maintained testing records, and planned test improvement measures and the SACS Accreditation Team. In addition, Ms. Faughender chaired the “Building Base Support Team” which created Individual Education Plans for special education, gifted and medical-needs students. Finally, Ms. Faughender managed the school’s Title I Federal Program which is a federally funded program that provides math and reading assistance for lower income children.
Sherrie enjoys gardening, bird watching, salt water aquariums, and spending time with her 2 year old granddaughter.
