Curriculum

Darrington Academy uses a computer-based program featuring 3-D animation and cutting edge multimedia. Students finish lessons by completing various questions, activities, and quizzes. Most of the grading is automatic so teachers have more time to assist each student with his/her individual needs. Teachers and students can leave messages for one another and teachers may find their work cut in half with the record keeping and grading features. The curriculum offers the flexibility to customize instruction to fit each students’ individual educational needs. Students are guided through the lessons at their own pace, giving them the chance to master concepts before moving on to more challenging lessons. The curriculum covers all core subjects through all grades as well as containing a number of elective courses such as American and British Literature, Home Economics, Health, College Survey, and Consumer Mathematics

Science

Students focus on the development of observational skills as they study the physical universe. Because our science curriculum is such a diverse program, the elementary and Jr. High grades (3-9) observe each area of science on an individual survey basis, usually unit by unit. The high school grades (10-12) focus on specific areas of science; this includes Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Health

This one-semester high school elective carefully considers the Christian view of health. The practice of good health starts with knowledge of the physical systems of the body. When the function of the body is understood, a person recognizes the importance of good nutrition, healthy exercise, and personal hygiene. Tending and caring for your health includes more than practicing good eating habits and getting regular exercise. Your overall health is affected by your spiritual, emotional, social, and environmental well-being. A responsible attitude toward living makes one avoid substances that destroy the body.
